Lyrical Tease

Riding in my tank, I might call an air strike
Some might say that’s unsportsman-like
Sometimes I make mistakes, but there’s nothing I can do
’cause you gotta kill them before they kill you
Salute me, prosecute me, why not just take my gun and shoot me,
Cause I don’t think I’ll make it out alive..

I wanna free you like a hurricane frees the wind
I wanna lead you back before original sin
I wanna lift you beyond your purgatory
I’m gonna make you my bedtime story

Lyrical Tease
What did I miss? Nothing much:
People still get born, and then they get old,
while OJs’ search for the killers has grown pretty cold.
What did I miss? Nothing much:
the Macarena, and Double Dutch, nothing much.

Daddy, why’s a man gotta where a hood?
Let’s just say he’s up to no good
Daddy, why’s a man gotta ride at night?
He hates hisself so much, he’s trying to feel right
Daddy, why’s a man hanging from a tree?
Why that’s no man, that’s an angel set free

It happens every time I start the mating waltz
The Love Arrow flies, but Cupids’ aim is false
He always misses her, while my heart is struck
I’m Cupids’ sitting duck; this is why life sucks

I’m not an educated man, I work with my hands, but there’s one thing that I know:
Big Business eats all the donuts, then leaves us with the holes
C’mon, give us a little justice, along with all the larceny
Then I’ll know life was meant for living beyond its warranty
How come “10,000 CEOs laid off” is a headline we’ll never see?

I’m no ordinary visionary, my hindsight’s 20-20
I can tell you tomorrow what you did wrong today
I’m no ordinary visionary, if you read between my lines, you’ll see
The advice I give to everyone else is really meant for me

Just got the “The Other Side of Somehow” CD.
I just kept playing it over and over, diggin’ the fun, intelligent, quirky grooves and lyrics. It reminded me of David Byrne and the great dance music of the 80’s, only with far more socio-political depth in the writing. Write on! Jam on! Dance on!

I received your CD, The Other Side of Somehow, this week and have been enjoying it. The art work on the jacket is eye-catching. Having the lyrics printed in white on black makes them stand out. The harmonies and the lyrics are excellent. Keep on writing and playing.

  41. Brian T. Carter
    March 18, 2011 | 4:53 pm

Listening to ‘Alive’ right now. I love how Rob manipulates his voice to convey the frenzied emotion of the main character. The intro and the military/machine gun breakdown is just…cool. It feeds the feeling of this song perfectly, making me feel a little closer to where the main character is. The military/machine gun breakdown feeds back to the intro guitar and bass riffs, but builds with another guitar riff in the next verse as Rob’s voice gathers intensity. The story further develops with the character being wounded and finding hope in the face of his beautiful nurse. She helps to change his mind. He decides that he wants to make it out alive after all. So…all in all, a song of hope Rob? Thanks for the great song.

Have to declare familial bias upfront, but ignore it. The CD sounds great — great arrangements, astonishing sound quality for some neat songs. Can’t wait to hear what Japan inspires.
